Kia ora e te whānau,
It has been a full and energising month, with a real highlight for me being our recent hui rautaki and the opportunity to meet and spend time kanohi ki te kanohi with so many of our whānau. It was a privilege being able to hear your aspirations and to start to plan out how we bring these to life. I’m pleased to share that we have now submitted a draft rautaki to our Trustee's for endorsement, marking an important step in shaping our collective direction. We look forward to reconnecting with you all around Matariki to provide a further update and continue that kōrero together.
There is also a growing sense of excitement as we prepare for our first hautapu at Ōmaru, a special moment for us to come together in reflection, connection, and aspiration for the year ahead. With over a month to go, there is plenty of time for you and your whānau to register.
As we move through the colder months, please take care of yourselves and one another. Look after your hauora, stay warm, and stay connected.

Hui Rautaki 2026
Tēnā koutou,
Tēnei te mihi nui ki a koutou i tae tata, i tae tawhiti mai ki ngā hui rautaki o Ngāti Pāoa! E maha ngā hua i puta mai i ngā kōrero me ngā wawata o ēnei hui, kei te hīkaka rawa mātou kia puta ēnei wawata ki tua o Matariki!
A huge mihi to all of our whānau who travelled from nearby and afar to contribute your aspirations to the Ngāti Pāoa strategic plan! This was such a crucial process that required whānau and hapū engagement across the board. The kōrero shared was meaningful and aspirational, providing a piece of history our uri whakaheke can look back on to help navigate the waka forward. A special mihi to one of our rangatahi, Jessie Witeri, who live-scribed the hui at Tāmaki College and created mahi toi that will shape the design of the strategy document.

Ōmaru Reserve - Creative Hui Invite
As part of progressing the overall vision for our settlement whenua at Ōmaru (previously Point England), in collaboration with Auckland Council who jointly manage the whenua. Ngāti Pāoa Trustees of the Ōmaru Joint Management Committee welcome whanau to a hui to provide your initial views on what you would like to see on the 40 hectares of whenua outside of the already planned Hine-nui-o-te-pāua Papakāinga and Paoa Whanake Marae development - updates will be provided on this mahi separately.
This hui is specifically to hear any ideas from Ngāti Pāoa whānau, your tamakiri, mokopuna and our kaumātua regarding what you would like to see on the whenua. It's a blank canvas so all suggestions are welcome, from sporting facilities to whare waka to orchards. Please come and share your thoughts.

James — known to many as Jimmy or Hemi — is a proud Irish tāne, born and raised in Derry in the north‑west of Ireland before making Aotearoa his home 11 years ago.
He brings 25 years of experience in project delivery and property advisory across private, public, and Māori organisations. Over the past nine years as Senior Development Manager at Tainui Group Holdings, James has delivered several significant iwi-led projects, including:
Residential developments at Rotokauri Rise, Te Hiringa, Tūumata Rise, and Te Kārearea
CBD master planning initiatives
Logistics warehousing at the Ruakura Superhub
James is excited to join Ngāti Pāoa and contribute to realising Ōmaru aspirations — from papakāinga and the marae development to wider whenua‑activating projects.
Outside of mahi, James and his wife enjoy supporting their three tamariki in their sporting pursuits. He is a passionate Chiefs supporter and loves getting out for a whīkoi in the taiao.

Blair was raised in Pātea before working the majority of his 28 year Public Service career from Whanganui. Following those public service roles, Blair then served as the inaugural General Manager for the Te Awa Tupua, leading the implementation of the Te Awa Tupua (Whanganui River Claims) Settlements Act 2017.
Having spent his entire life amongst his maternal whānau in Taranaki, Whanganui and Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga Blair decided in 2020 to 'retire' and move his whānau to Waiheke Island to learn more about his paternal connections to the Hauraki.
In 2023 Blair was contracted as the Project Manager for the Pou Rāhui project and as of February this year was appointed Waiheke Development Director.
In addition to representing the Ngāti Pāoa Iwi Trust on Waiheke Island, his current key projects include:
The Otakawhe Lodge Refurbishment.
The Pou Rāhui Project.
The Waiheke Station Farm review and
Leading the Iwi Exotic Caulerpa response
